Topics of the workshop
The Staff¹ Development Workshop enerGIS provides the participants an introduction to Geographic Information Systems (GIS) based on energy relevant issues concerning Central Asia.
¹ University lecturers and administrators, NGO or technical experts interested in:
- applying GIS technologies to energy issues or other projects.
- applying the acquired skills later on in Central Asia.
- building up a collaborative network (coordinated by ACA*GIS).
GIS is able to support decision-making processes by assisting the management of renewable energy resources like biomass, hydro, solar or wind energy.
Workshop language: English, no translation provided.
Aim of the workshop
- Theoretical and practical introduction to GIS and GPS.
- Gain understanding for the motivation behind renewable energy sources.
- Ability to evaluate concrete energy potentials using GIS (ESRI ArcGIS).

Central Asian contributions
by participants are strongly encouraged. We encourage our Central Asian participants to submit GIS-related application studies that highlight the local needs and local achievments regarding GIS and/or energy. These will be presented on September 22nd, 2010 and included in the workbook.
Important deadlines for participants from Central Asia EPU partner universities:
- August 15th, 2010: End of registration period.
- August 30th, 2010: Notification of acceptance.
Important deadlines for Central Asian participants presenting local application sudies during the Wednesday conference session (15 min. presentation or poster) and for lecturers (45 min. presentation) - to be included in the workbook:
- June 30th, 2010: Deadline for extended abstracts (1000 words).
- July 17th, 2010: Notification of acceptance and review of submitted extended abstract.
- August 15th, 2010: Deadline for final version of extended abstract (to be published on the website) and for first version of presentation slides or poster.
- August 30th, 2010: Review of presentation slides/completed poster.
- September 10th, 2010: Handover of final version of presentation slides/poster.
